frequently asked questions?
What supplies will my child need ? The only items your child will need for the ukulele class are a soprano (smallest size) ukulele, case, and tuner. All music and instructional materials are provided .
How much is the cost of a ukulele & case ? Like most instruments there is a big range in cost for ukuleles however the great news is that a quality starter soprano ukulele is very budget friendly with an approximate cost of $40-$60 and a basic case will approximately cost $20. The tuner approximate cost is $10-$20. (*Please note these costs are approximate. ) Packages selling all three as a bundle are also available. Once you register you will receive specific purchase options.
How do I purchase a ukulele? Ukulele purchase information will be provided upon registration. If you currently do not own a Soprano Ukulele please do not purchase a ukulele before you receive the information. Unfortunately there are a lot of inferior options out there for the same price or even more money than you need to spend. I want to make sure you have the information you need to make the best decision. Hello Harmony does not receive any money from ukulele purchases so you can be sure you are receiving good advice.
Do you offer other group instrument lessons? I also specialize in wind instrument instruction. These are traditional band instruments such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and low brass. If you are a homeschool parent interested in having your child learn an instrument and play in an ensemble with their homeschool friends/peers please send me at email at helloharmonymusic@gmail.com and I can design and ensemble just for you and friends and/or co-op ! No experience is necessary!
Will my child learn to read music? Reading music is an important skill and requires a strong foundation in fundamental elements including characteristic sound developed through instrument technique, as well as steady beat and rhythm. The ukulele beginner curriculum focuses on sound before symbol but some basic reading elements will be taught as part of the beginner curriculum. We will start with learning chords which allows your child to play songs very quickly. It also allows the students to focus on good technique which will provide for early success and most importantly good sound. Even if your child never takes another ukulele course they will be taught the basic skills to work on some favorite songs on their own and continue to enjoy playing!
If your child registers for the wind instrumental ensembles they will also be taught to read music through a sound before symbol process to make their playing experience successful and fun! If students stick with the program they will become fluent music readers!
Are there any intermediate/advanced ukulele classes available? I do not have any classes available this fall but be on the lookout for more course offerings in the future!
